Georges River Art Prize 2023

Requirements: Entrants must submit a work in the medium of either painting or sculpture.

Eligibility: Open to all Australian permanent residents and citizens. Further requirements apply to each individual category.

The Georges River Art Prize is a biennial art prize that provides an opportunity for artists from all over Australia to display their work. There are categories for painting and sculptural work, children and youth, and local artists. The Georges River Art Prize is hosted by Hurstville Museum & Gallery and the Clive James Library and Service Centre, Kogarah, and offers $20,000 in prize money. In 2023, the judging panel will include artist Tony Costa, Arts & Culture Specialist at Bayside Council, Sydney Patrick Cremin, and Carrie Kibbler, Curator at Hazelhurst Arts Centre, Sydney.

Awards

The awards includes the $10,000 acquisitive Georges River Art painting Prize, the $5,000 non-acquisitive Georges River Sculpture Prize, $4,000 acquisitive Georges River Local Artist Prize, the $200 (material voucher) Georges River Little Artist Prize, the $300 (material voucher) Georges River Youth Prize, the $500 Georges River People’s Choice Prize and the $100 Georges River Favourite Young artist Prize.

Georges River Local Artist Prize also includes a solo exhibition valued at approximately $200. Entrants who enter the Georges River Art Prize and live in the Georges River Council Local Government Area are eligible to be considered for this prize.

What you need to know

Artists must be living in Australia for the period 1 January 2021 – 30 June 2023, and the work submitted must have been made after 1 January 2022.
