Alcaston Gallery presents an exhibition by Aileen Napaljarri Long and Ada Pula Beasley. Both working in the Barkly Region of the Northern Territory, their entirely distinctive yet complimentary paintings of Country typify the broad, confident visual language typical of the region.
Aileen Napaljarri Long is celebrated for her abstract, modernist style, which is characterised by bold, bright linear mark-making. Landscapes and flora drawn from the mind’s eye, cultural knowledge and family converge with an exuberant confidence in Long’s paintings.
Ada Pula Beasley’s practice sits at the nexus of impressionism and realism. In idiosyncratic hazy brushstrokes, she depicts the rolling sandhills of her country after rain, awash with bright greens, punctuated by yellow and purple flowers used in traditional bush medicine.
