Allan Fox, Untitled 2016, Gouache on paper, 51.2 x 73cm, image and sheet
52 years after his first exhibition of hardedge geometric abstraction in Sale – the first of its kind anywhere in the region – Allan Fox returns to Gippsland Art Gallery.
Fox’s art is a blaze of energy and precision, wrought through razor-sharp planes of colour that jostle within a tight picture frame. Good Vibrations is an exhibition of visual pop and fizz; of springloaded pressure and release charged with an electric potency. While the echoes of 1960s abstraction linger on, Fox’s abstraction is a mature and sophisticated evolution of one of art’s greatest revolutions.
