Amy Wright: Here, Thriving Despite It All

October 1 – October 18, 2026

Brunswick Street Gallery

Here, Thriving Despite It All explores the contrast between dense urban spaces and vast natural landscapes through Amy Wright‘s travels in New York City and Joshua Tree National Park, highlighting the resilience of nature in both environments.

“As an artist, I am interested in the visual connections that emerge across contrasting environments—the repetition of colour, rhythm, structure, and growth—and in the quiet resilience of nature, which continues to flourish in places where it seems least expected.”

Just as green shoots continually find ways to flourish amongst the concrete of Manhattan, Wright always finds colour there—whether in the materials of the city’s architecture or in the living world reflected in the towering glass structures of the metropolis.

In Joshua Tree, a contrasting landscape of stillness and apparent austerity, the breaking dawn gradually reveals a rich palette of celadons, apricots, ochres, deep plum reds, and luminous blues.

“Rather than documenting these places in a traditional sense, my work weaves together memories of both, focusing on capturing the resilience of nature through close observation of colour, pattern, and texture.”

Here, Thriving Despite It All echoes the artist’s experience of moving through these environments, capturing the quiet dialogue between cultivated and wild landscapes, permanence and change, and our enduring connection to the living world.
