Arthur Boyd & Shaun Gladwell: Man on Fire: Visions of Nebuchadnezzar
Bundanon, Shoalhaven, NSW
Showing until 11 October 2026

Bundanon brings Arthur Boyd’s iconic Nebuchadnezzar series into dialogue with a major new commission by Shaun Gladwell. Produced largely in the UK during the 1960s, Boyd’s images depict the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, exiled by God for the sin of pride and condemned to live as an animal in the wilderness for seven years. Created in residency at Bundanon and rooted in Gladwell’s familial ties to the Shoalhaven, the new commission responds directly to Boyd’s work and its concerns around how masculinity is performed, tested and transformed.

Illuminating enduring questions of power, exile and human frailty, the two artists wrestle with reckoning and renewal. The opening weekend offers free entry to the Art Museum, artist talks and a live performance by Roslyn Orlando.
