Through a fanaticism with the behaviours of steel, Basil Papoutsidis explores the sculptural contexts of formalist abstraction. Bent Chassis is his latest series, developing his ongoing interest in material behaviours and late-modernist heritage. With each work, Papoutsidis revises sculptural traditions from the vantage point of vehicular forms; constructed from stainless steel, fractured lines deviate the organic to the geometric. Bent Chassis sits within an arena where theoretical design principles face-off with the realities of construction, and where materials are re-awakened through continual transformation.
