Brendan Huntley, Blood moon (half volume 2), 2019. Oil, impasto and gesso on 640gsm cotton archival paper, 157 x 115cm. Courtesy: the artist and Martin Browne Contemporary, Sydney.
Any Day Now sees artist Brendan Huntley move effortlessly between mediums, joyfully exploring bronze, ceramics, drawing and painting. Growing up in a creative home and studio with artist parents, he has experimented with clay and paints since early childhood. Through this exhibition he continues this investigation, developing his exploration of diverse materials.
Pushing the boundaries of clay and glaze through size and technique, Huntley has created large ceramic sculptures that appear abstract from side-on. When we look from above (to discover which direction the forms are flying), we encounter pooled lakes of silica glass and volcanic glazes, emulating comets, stars and suns with faces full of personality and cosmic curiosity.
Exhibition opens: 6–8pm Thursday 22 August 2019
