Chogh چوغ

Chogh چوغ is the Hazaragi word for “thread”, something that binds, repairs, carries memory, and connects one life to another. A thread can hold things together. It can also show where something has been torn and carefully mended.

Chogh چوغ brings together six Australian-Hazara artists whose works speak from lived experience. This exhibition explores migration, identity, gender, and belonging through painting, textiles and installation. For Hazara people, questions of home, loss, survival, and visibility are part of personal and collective experience. It is carried across borders, languages, and generations. Across the exhibition, thread speaks to family ties, inherited knowledge, memory, storytelling, and the quiet strength of things made by hand.

What joins these artists is not sameness, but a shared strength: the urge to hold on, to speak, to remember, and to make.
