Dara Kretschmer, Something There Is, 2017. Digital photograph.
In Something There Is, Dara Kretschmer reinvents the landscape by intervening in the photographic process, using an array of media and processes including photography, weaving, embroidery, beading, and hand and machine stitching. The works include photography and repurposed newspaper articles woven into baskets. Kretschmer’s work explores themes of ‘re-making’ or repair, displacement, the condition of being in transit and the meaning and location of borders, boundaries and zones of transition. The exhibition proposes an alternate rendering of reality and asks a viewer to consider their own sense of place in the world.
