David Rankin, Red Clouds, 2019. Acrylic, charcoal, pastel and ink on canvas, 111cm x 182.5cm. Courtesy: the artist and Charles Nodrum Gallery, Melbourne.
Charles Nodrum gallery presents two concurrent solo shows by David Rankin and Ann Thomson with landscape as the common theme. Whilst, for the most part, landscape was never the specific subject of either Rankin or Thomson’s work, it has played a recurrent role in both their careers stretching back to the 1960s.
With regard to the works in these two exhibitions, in neither case is the landscape itself immediately apparent: more significantly, it is a point of departure rather than a point of arrival – the inspiration, not the direct subject.
Exhibition opens: 4–6pm Saturday 5 October
