Dean Biŋkin Tyson: CREATE EXCHANGE: Painted Up

March 23 - May 29

CREATE EXCHANGE: Painted Up at The Mezz extends the exhibition by Dean Biŋkin Tyson, presented concurrently at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland, and offers audiences further insight into local Goori (Aboriginal) art from the Redlands Coast and surrounding islands.

Among the works presented is a painted jipbalung (fishing spear), representing enduring Goori technology and knowledge. This work honours the Ancestors and Elders who are the keepers of cultural knowledge and who continue to pass these teachings on to future generations.

Through this presentation, Dean Biŋkin Tyson shares cultural stories, totems and the deep meanings embedded within this ancient place. His works reflect the strong spiritual and reciprocal relationship that Quandamooka people hold with both land and sea—relationships that continue to guide community, identity and belonging.

Painted Up is part of a three-year project of artist-residency style exhibitions and activations, collectively titled CREATE EXCHANGE. The exhibition is presented at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland and Redland Art Gallery, The Mezz at Redland Performing Arts Centre.
