Domenico de Clario, 13 August: 3.38 pm, 2019. Oil on carpet, 50 x 50cm. Courtesy: the artist and MARS Gallery, Victoria.
Domenico de Clario’s project, beyond tonglen: in the garden of yes, consists of a series of plein air paintings made in the vastness of the Sky Garden.
Each of the thirty paintings are made at a particular location in the Tonglen burial site and were created over a period of 30 days, beginning at the precise moment the full moon reached its cyclic apogee. The making of a blindfolded painting began one hour later on each subsequent day. The paintings are made on squares of woven carpets representing a range of sensory experiences affecting the artist while he was painting blindfolded.
On the opening night of beyond tonglen: in the garden of yes, visitors will be treated to live performances by de Clario and Mindy Meng Wang from 6:15pm on MARS Rooftop.
Exhibition opens: 6:15–8:15pm Saturday 21 September 2019
