Donald Laycock, Cantata, 1979, oil on canvas, 61 x 91cm. Courtesy: the artist and Charles Nodrum Gallery, Melbourne.
This is Donald Laycock‘s second show with Charles Nodrum. The works in this exhibition come mostly from two sources. First, from the collection of Mirka Mora (with whom he had a famous affair in the late 1950s) and the remainder from the collection of David Draffin (who had known his work well from his time as gallery assistant at South Yarra Galleries, where Laycock exhibited in the 1960s and 1970s). The range is extensive – from the jewelled, all-over surfaces of the 1950s – through to the music-inspired works commissioned for the Arts Centre.
Exhibition opens: 4–6pm Saturday 7 March 2020
