Noël Skrzypczak, Moonflower III, 2018. Acrylic on canvas, 188 x 156 cm. Courtesy: the artist and Neon Parc, Melbourne.
This exhibition brings together two contemporary artists who present personal takes on abstraction – Noël Skrzypczak through the medium of painting and Adam John Cullen through sculpture.
Skrzypczak’s Moonflower series consists of nocturnal psychological landscapes; a process of masking creates strips of hallucinating patterning recalling night forest walks. In Cullen’s monochromatic sculptures past works are broken down and built up, blending into each other in acts of burying and uncovering. An archaeological undercurrent permeates – ‘digging up’ and concern for personal memory couples with a paradoxical continual drive of becoming.
Exhibition Opens: 4—6pm Saturday 29 June 2019
