Heath Franco (b. 1984, Cooma NSW; lives on Dharug land in Sydney) is a distinctive voice in contemporary Australian art. Working across multiple time-based disciplines, Franco has developed an unmistakable style that marries absurdist humour and psychotropic aesthetics with deeper reflections on culture, home, and human existence. Franco’s thematic interests weave together Western pop culture, suburban environments, memory, domesticity, and metaphysical questions of space–time. Raised in rural Berridale, then suburban Westmead, he frequently draws on the haunting familiarity of these landscapes—infusing his work with the tension of outsider perspectives and emotional revisitations of past/present and future.
Heath holds a BFA in Drawing and painting from UNSW. He was awarded the NSW Visual Arts Fellowship in 2015, the Fishers Ghost Contemporary Award in 2014, as well as the Churchie Prize in 2012.
