Hiroshi Kobayashi presents his latest inquiry into abstraction through the lens of psychoanalysis. Drawing on Freud’s conception of ‘Das Es’ – the unconscious drive that precedes reason – the works gesture toward the poetics of the irrational. The artist’s own ‘Patagraphy’ method merges algorithmic precision with the fluid contingencies of oil paint, giving form to the unspoken murmurs of instinct and desire.
