With this new series of photography and video, Jacobus Capone transports us into the heart of a landscape millions of years old, within the sacred confines of “crystal furnaces” – naturally occurring, crystal-filled cavities – located high in the French Alps.
These exquisite, jewel-like spaces reference the moment of the Alps’ creation, yet tragically are only becoming accessible as a warming planet destroys the mountains that house them, exposing the furnaces to the light of day.
Embracing the beauty and pathos of creation and destruction, GENESIS continues Capone’s sustained investigation into the condition of human being within nature.
