James Barker (1931-2019) is an exhibition curated by former wife and renowned Australian painter, Elisabeth Cummings and their son, Damian Barker. A talented artist and teacher, this exhibition spans James Barker’s 60-year career. The works selected include landscapes, still lifes and interiors.
Standing amongst some of the notable 1950s alumni of East Sydney Tech, as it was then known (now currently known as the National Art School), Barker is known for his vibrant palette and compositional versatility which allow for the changing subjects of his paintings to come to life, reflecting the artist’s technical skill and steadfast devotion to his craft.
