Jan Murray: Rapt

“In Rapt, Jan Murray’s latest series to date, her long engagement with painting’s theatre takes another compelling turn. On one level, her work asks the deceptively simple question: what is real here? Yet the answer keeps playfully oscillating between surface and object, recognition and doubt, meticulous discipline and pleasure. Murray does not simply trick the eye. She rewards it for returning and staying in a place that suspends literal interpretation.”
