Jane James, Lagoon Bay, 2019. Acrylic on linen, 137 x 91cm. Courtesy: the artists and Colville Gallery, Hobart.
Jane James is an artist who references the critical nature of interacting with a marine interface. Over thirty years she has lived by and dived in our oceans and this body of work highlights the majesty and beauty of the kelp forests. Recent years have seen a sharp decline in these native habitats. Consequently, James paints a world that is almost lost, recording her memories and those of our generation from her own experiences and photographic records.
Exhibition opens 5:30—7:30pm Wednesday 23 October 2019
