In Tonality of Home Northern Rivers artist Jenny Gill Schirmer investigates the themes of structure, uncertainty and nostalgia. The artist plays with the familiarity and patina of domestic objects and spaces, using colour, tone and found objects to reference childhood places of safety and security.
Through the exploration of materials fossicked offcuts and found objects are combine with refined surfaces and ceramic details to form considered assemblages. Delicately layered paintings are created using the structure of line and geometry, overlaid with rich colours and timber veneer.
The elements installed in the exhibition are a reflection of personal and collective histories, reflecting the artists’ experiences and those who inhabited these domestic spaces over time.
