Jenny Topfer, The taste of river water, 2020. Oil, wax pigment stick & pigment on linen, 183 x 366cm (diptych). Courtesy: the artist and Fox Jensen McCrory, Auckland.
Jenny Topfer makes paintings that demonstrate exertion and skirmish, some reach a version of détente, but look closely and that apparently hushed tonal restraint camouflages turbulence and exertion that gives the paintings their glorious stubbornness character, their buoyancy and their thickness of white.
This is the second solo exhibition of Topfer’s held by the galleries, the first in New Zealand. She has been exhibited in two projects Permafrost in Sydney and The Anatomy of Gesture in Auckland. Fox Jensen McCrory are delighted to present these new paintings, opening on Saturday the 1st of May with the presence of the artist.
Opening event Saturday 1 May 12 to 4pm.
