With a career spanning more than 50 years, John Nixon (1949-2020) was a pivotal Australian figure in the history of abstract and non-objective art. Nixon pursued an experimental practice focused on painting, while also encompassing disciplines ranging from collage, drawing and printmaking to film, music, and dance.
The exhibition features over 35 works by Nixon, all drawn from the Lyon Collection, and represent key aspects of the artist’s oeuvre and is a testament to Nixon’s lifelong commitment to his practice and to his ongoing experimentation. The exhibition has been co-curated by the Lyon Housemuseum, Nixon’s long-time gallerist Anna Schwartz and his Nixon’s widow Sue Cramer (former curator at Heide).
