For Judith White, the Australian bush is rich with inspiration, from the vertical line of the trees to the interplay of water and light. In her latest body of work, Judith focuses on the rugged beauty of the south coast of New South Wales, a craggy landscape where the bush meets the sea. Using her unique layering process of pigment and collage, Judith lets abstract shapes dance across the canvas surface echoing the snaking of water and sand through rocks and scrub. By abstracting the landscape, Judith illuminates the sensory effect of these bush, beach and creek sanctuaries which “team with bird call, light and peace”. Created over lockdown, Judith welcomed the retreat into the natural world. In this landscape, she explains, “isolation…was not a problem”.
