Judy Holding, Weaving at Lightning Dreaming, 2019. Watercolour on paper, 51 x 186cm. Courtesy: the artist and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.
In this next instalment of her exhibition series at Alcaston Gallery, Voices From The Land II, Judy Holding’s significant body of work consisting of sublime watercolour paintings and tree sculptures, including a series of delicate cast bronze trees, embodies all of her artistic dichotomies: overwhelming sensory stimulations versus controlled, deliberate illustrations; preconceived knowledge versus reliance on the teachings of others; the literal versus the abstract; and most importantly, her innate spiritual and physical connection to the Australian landscape. The exhibition will be officially launched by Justine Van Mourik, Director, Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra.
Exhibition opens 5:30–7:30pm Wednesday 16 October 2019
