Following-on from her great successes earlier in the year at both Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Monster Theatres and 22nd Biennale of Sydney, NIRIN, this wide-ranging exhibition by Karla Dickens comprises photography, video, sculpture, collage and garment-related installations.
SOS explores diverse topics, such as the effects of poverty upon Indigenous Australians, damage and death of native flora and fauna through bush fires, ill-informed and inappropriate land management practices caused by Australia’s over-reliance on carbon-based energy sources, and mainstream Australia’s inability to understand the offence caused when celebrating Australia Day on the date First Nations People associate with invasion.
