Chalk Horse Gallery presents solo exhibition by Kat Shapiro Wood.
Wood’s work is centred around encaustic materials and in them there is a softness and warm vibration that steers away from the austerity prevalent in a lot of minimal art. Freedom is expressed within the minimal boundaries that the artist erects; she explores the difference in repetition by pitting various colours, textures, layers and surface finishes (matte, stained, gloss) against each other.
The series is intimate: the works are smaller and they draw you in so you can catch their nuances. Found materials like old antique book covers act as the support for many of her encaustics instead of traditional board. These backings have a history – they have already been touched and felt.
The gallery will be open by appointment. Please contact the gallery to arrange a suitable viewing time. Walkthrough videography will be provided for those who cannot make it in to see the exhibition.
