Katie Breckon, Kimberley Shapes. 2019. Synthetic polymer paint on incised copper sheet, 60.5x45cm. Courtesy: the artist and Fox Galleries, Melbourne.
Ochre and Light is deeply focused on translating Katie Breckon’s experiences and observations of living in the remote West Kimberley outback, which originate from a feeling of homesickness. Her artistic practice has become the vehicle not only to drive her creative process forward, but also to express the absence of the familiar sensations of her homeland.
Katie Breckon makes photographic, print and installation-based work that continuously seeks the intersection between place, time, image and memory. In this most recent body of work, she prominently employs nineteenth century photographic processes, such as small hand-built sets and wet plate photography, to create what she describes as ‘silver poems’.
Exhibition opens: 5-7pm Saturday 29 June 2019
