Kirsteen Pieterse, Construction Timber Mountain #7, plywood offcuts and stainless steel, 36 x 32 x 20cm. Courtesy: the artist and Utopia Art, Sydney.
Kirsteen Pieterse’s studio in Hong Kong is surrounded by mountains covered in scrub and teeming with wildlife, yet tunnelled through and carved up by large scale engineering, infrastructure and construction. In these sculptures she has taken plywood, a lowly and leftover composite material and made landscape forms, seemingly ageless and reminiscent of sandstone. Other sculptures of stainless steel and aluminium float cloud like across the walls.
Exhibition opens: 3–5pm Saturday June 1 2019
