Kylie Elkington’s luminous paintings celebrating native Tasmanian flora have gained recent acclaim and favourable critical response. Elkington was recently awarded People’s Choice Award in the 2018 Glover Prize, and her work was Highly Commended in the same prize this year. She was also a Finalist in the Hadley’s 2019 Prize.
Of Habitat, Elkington says: “The works in this exhibition represent a continuation and an extension of my exploration of the minutiae in the landscape, specifically the flora of northern Tasmania … The works are my interpretations of the landscape, a manifestation of the way in which the exquisite beauty of nature appeals to me, and with which I have taken some licence.”
Exhibition opens: 5:30–7.30pm Friday 16 August 2019
