Kym Brookes: Lines of Landscape

February 6 - March 22

“This body of work is a tactile exploration of place, memory, and transformation. As a fibre artist living on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, I draw deeply from the textures, tones, and rhythms of the landscape around me. Each piece is composed using natural fibres, recycled materials and locally sourced earth pigment elements that speak to both the fragility and resilience of the environment.

Weaving is central to my practice, not only as a technique but as a metaphor for connection: between materials, between people, and between the urban and natural worlds. The works reflect a dialogue with the land—its erosion, regeneration, and quiet strength. By incorporating pigments from the earth beneath my feet, I embed the geography of home directly into the fabric of each piece.

This exhibition invites viewers to slow down and engage with the subtleties of texture, form, and material. It is a meditation on sustainability, rootedness, and the beauty found in imperfection. Through these works, I hope to evoke a sense of belonging and encourage a deeper appreciation for the landscapes we inhabit and the stories they hold.”
