Liam Fleming: Patterns of Pressure

“Patterns of Pressure explores the idea that solidity is an illusion. Through mould blown and kiln-formed glass, I push the material just beyond its expected limits, allowing heat to soften certainty and reveal transformation.

“The work reflects my understanding of the body as a process rather than a fixed form. Like glass, we exist in continual states of heating, cooling, expansion, and contraction. What appears solid is, in fact, always changing.

“As our attachment to fixed form begins to dissolve, new possibilities emerge. The work invites a movement away from grasping and certainty toward openness, where space is created not by adding more, but by letting go. In this space, transformation becomes possible – for the material, for the body, and for the way we perceive ourselves.”
