MARS Gallery presents Lilli Strömland’s exhibition, Spring & Weave, a series of vibrant produce paintings reflecting on reconnecting with her family’s Scandinavian roots.
Emerging from the Leif Hasles Foundation residency in Denmark, Lilli took to painting freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, chronicling a daily ritual as she connected with local farm to table practices. Inspired by Swedish textile heritage, the works hung closely together to evoke the patchworking of quilts, connecting to Lilli’s heritage in subject and form.
Strömland holds a BFA in painting from the National Art School (2015) and has been a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Scholarship (2020), the Portia Geach Memorial Award (2019, 2025), The Waverley Art Prize (2018, 2025), The Evelyn Chapman Award (2018), The Fisher’s Ghost Art Award (2024, 2025) and the Salon de Refusés at S.H. Ervin Gallery (2019).
