Jonathan Smart Gallery presents new works by Marie Le Lievre. Le Lievre’s paintings have a tangible physicality in their depths and layers. The glossy reflective oils become quiet pools of contemplation and gentle flowing forms contrast with the raw and rhythmic “notes” inscribed across the surfaces in charcoal and oil pastel.
As the eye wanders across the canvas there are moments of calm introspection to be had, in contrast with the flurries of energy and urgency held in the mark-making. Forms are familiar and yet uncomfortable at times. In Sounds Woo, Le Lievre speaks to us genuinely and authentically about the human condition and the continual state of flux in which we live.
The gallery is open and adhering to Covid-19 social distancing measures.
