This exhibition features a bold new body of bark paintings that explore the sacred waters, ancestral narratives and shimmering grid motifs of Waṉḏawuy, the spiritual homeland of the Djapu clan. These works reflect a significant stylistic evolution for Munuŋgurr, who introduces broader brush strokes and transparent layering techniques in place of her intricate crosshatching in previous works. In these new works, the sacred Djapu clan designs—miny’tji—are painted with a vibrant energy that captures and abstracts Munuŋgurr’s ancestral identity.
