Matilda Davis, We Have Dinner too Often, 2018. Oil on canvas, cotton trim ad chain, 40 x 30cm. Courtesy: the artist and Neon Parc, Melbourne.
For this exhibition, emerging artist Matilda Davis presents seven paintings that explore the artist as mother and creator of alternative worlds through symbolism and free association.
The seven days in the Genesis creation story – of light; atmosphere/firmament; dry ground and plants; sun, moon and stars; birds and sea animals; land animals and humans; and the sabbath of rest – form the narrative sketch from which personal, fantastical, subversive and coded compositions emerge, ruminating on the making of art itself.
Exhibition opens: 6–8pm Friday 26 April 2019
