Mika Utzon Popov: Made

October 15 - November 1

Mika Utzon Popov’s nomadic journey has taken him from Denmark’s beech forests to Sydney’s Northern Beaches and the cliffs of Mallorca—places that have profoundly shaped both his worldview and creative practice. Growing up in the shadow of his grandfather Jørn Utzon, the architectural visionary, he developed an acute awareness of how light and space interact, and the profound possibilities within their relationship.

Made at OLSEN Gallery in Sydney brings together the diverse strands of his multifaceted practice. Utzon Popov envisions the exhibition as “an amalgam of my two-dimensional and three-dimensional work with bronze and textiles, plaster and paper, allowing these things to speak together in a similar voice.” At the heart of the show is a series of new tapestries inspired by the cultural traditions of the Balearic Islands, a place that, like Denmark, holds an enduring significance for the artist.
