Martin Browne Contemporary presents Space For Time, an exhibition of new paintings by Monika Behrens.
Behrens’ new paintings have a grand weightlessness; each work is a fresh space to meditate and contemplate within. Through the combination of elements – clusters of tropical foliage float above spurting water – there is a fine balance of calm and energetic imagery.
Developed off the back of a recent Paris residency, the works include features from well-known Parisian fountains including St Sulpice, Place de Vosges, and the Observatory in the Luxembourg Gardens. These fountains transform the movement and sound of Paris creating an ambience that soothes through the rapid sound of water. The floral paintings playfully pop vivid colours through composed spaces of flowers, hovering objects and shapes. These works embody the sense of a portal that intends to transport the viewer to an alternative reality, in which the expected norm is abstracted.
Exhibition opens: 6-8pm Thursday 5 March 2020
