Nocturnal Visions

August 14 – November 16, 2026

Norman Lindsay Gallery

Norman Lindsay, The Audience, 1925. Aquatint and etching.

Nocturnal Visions offers a rare opportunity to explore the artistic and cultural meanings of the night, revealing how darkness can inspire some of the most captivating and evocative works of art.

Drawing together etchings, watercolours, sculptures and collection objects, this exhibition reveals how artists and makers have been inspired by the transformative power of darkness. From dreamlike landscapes and mythological figures to intimate studies illuminated by moonlight, the works invite visitors to experience the night as a place of creativity, romance, contemplation and wonder.

Norman Lindsay’s mastery of line and atmosphere is showcased alongside carefully selected collection pieces that echo themes of shadow, imagination and the unseen. Together, they create a rich visual journey through twilight worlds where reality and fantasy intertwine.
