Peggy Napangardi Jones, Two Birds, 1998. Synthetic polymer paint on linen, 140.5 x 89.5cm. Courtesy: the artist and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.
Alcaston Gallery presents an online selection of paintings by the late Peggy Napangardi Jones (1951–2014), a Warumungu woman from the Tennant Creek region in the Northern Territory. In this exhibition, 20% of all sales proceeds will be donated to the Purple House, which provides culturally safe dialysis, social support and aged care services across remote areas of Australia.
These sublime paintings, dating back to the beginning of the artist’s career in 1998, are a joyful celebration of Jones and Australia’s unique landscape. Known for her vivid and colourful depictions of Australian flora and fauna, Jones’ portrayals of birds, animals, and bush tucker remain just as appealing today in their graceful simplicity and joie de vivre.
