Rob McLeish, Distortion 12, 2020, Pencil on paper (Lana, Dessin 220, FRANCE), 42 x 59.4cm (drawing size). Framed in Vic Ash with non-reflective UltraVue UV70 glass. Courtesy: the artist and Neon Parc, Melbourne.
The exhibition is a series of 60 intensely rigorous drawings produced over the previous 18 months. Collectively titled Distortions, the series of provocative works on paper mine and subvert a plethora of discordant subject matter including swimming pools, cartoon characters, Abstraction and Minimalism, the obscure online subculture of Pregfurs and digitally generated pornography.
Distortions is the artist’s first-ever exhibition dedicated exclusively to drawing, which has long formed the foundation to his diverse sculptural and collage practice, these works provide a unique insight into the enormous range of stimuli that underpins and inspires McLeish’s practice.
Opening event: Friday 23 April 6 to 8pm, 15 Tinning St, Brunswick, Melbourne.
