Tracing Transcendence is an immersive installation by Shireen Taweel that explores the cross-cultural histories behind her Lebanese-Australian heritage, as well as the dialogue and consideration of sacred and non-secular spaces. Exhibited at 4A’s ground floor gallery, the work provides audiences with an intimate viewpoint of Taweel’s coppersmith-driven practice, via a suspended installation bearing traditional geometric and arabesque Islamic decorative motifs hand-cut into copper, with an accompanied soundscape.
Taweel and exhibition curator Reina Takeuchi will be at the gallery on Saturday 12 September to meet the public and speak about the works. Takeuchi will also be in conversation with Taweel in her studio, which will be released online as part of the gallery’s 4A TALKS series.
