THIS IS NO FANTASY presents Simon Degroot’s sixth solo exhibition with the gallery.
Disruptions are a pervasive condition of contemporary life, no longer exceptions but part of our everyday experience. In this new body of work, Simon Degroot explores the generative potential of interruption – not simply as a break or disturbance, but as a space for reflection, reorientation, and renewal.
Through abstract painting, Degroot constructs layered compositions where stylised gestures collide with hard-edge forms. These visual interruptions become metaphors for how we navigate instability – pausing, adjusting, rebuilding.
By embracing the unexpected, Degroot reveals how disruption can be both disorienting and transformative. His paintings reflect a dynamic process of fragmentation and reassembly, echoing the psychological and cultural shifts of our time. In their interplay of structure and spontaneity, the works invite viewers to consider how moments of rupture can open up new possibilities for understanding and growth.
