Callum Innes, Untitled Lamp Black / Caribbean Turquoise, 2021. Oil on linen 175 x 172cm. Courtesy: the artist and Fox Jensen Gallery, Sydney.
Callum Innes’s paintings have long expressed his desire to use the practice of painting as an act of analogue accounting. Not one that simply seeks to define time but one that measures pressure and release, evidences touch and persuasion of a material that might well resist or deviate given its own tenacious character.
New paintings from Innes’s Oslo studio have joined a selection of works held by the gallery so as to make a beautiful exhibition where we can sense the quiet arc of time and studied progress that have defined this most consistent of painters.
Opening Saturday 26 February 12 – 4 pm.
