For five years Danish photographer Søren Solkær has photographed the large starling murmurations that take place by the Wadden Sea in the marshlands of Southern Denmark every spring and fall, prior to their migration. Here they create one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena. Extending the territory of his photographic investigation for the following three years to include Rome, the Netherlands, Glastonbury, Ireland and Catalonia.
Inspired by classical landscape painting, calligraphy and Japanese wood cuts, Søren has created this series of graphic images of the landscape and great flocks of starlings performing an unrivalled display of collaboration and performance skills. A strong visual expression is created – like that of an ink drawing or a calligraphic brush stroke – asserting itself against the sky.
Opening Reception with the Artist: Thursday, 26 May, 6-8pm
