LON Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Tamara Marrington in an online viewing room.
For Marrington, painting is a medium through which to process subjective takings. Her recent paintings explore the boundaries of representation and realism, resulting in images that are at once familiar and surreal. In a process that affects both artist and audience, Marrington’s paintings work to provoke sensorial encounters with subjectivity.
Often working from a photograph or video collected on her phone, Marrington’s paintings fulfil their representational needs before subverting the sacredness of the art object through painterly expressions aimed at capturing feeling or emotion. This process of translation, from photograph to painting, further exposes the artist’s own subjectivity through the act of including or excluding certain elements of the original image.
