Teeya Ryan: I am my own machine…

February 25 - March 7

Emerging Australian artist Teeya Ryan works across print media and performance to examine what happens when the act of making becomes the work itself. Her practice foregrounds labour, the body and the often invisible processes that underpin print/making. Each gesture of carving, pressing, stamping and lifting becomes a form of choreography, exposing the physical intensity typically erased from the final image.

Rather than presenting prints as resolved outcomes, Ryan draws attention to the energy, repetition and endurance that precede them. Her performances unsettle the neutrality of the white cube, asking how gallery spaces might hold works still unfolding and how invisible labour can become visible and political.

Rigorous yet raw, Ryan reflects on precarious conditions within the Australian arts landscape while proposing resistance through action. Here, print is not only an image on paper, but a site of effort, care and strength.
