In Pmara nurnaka imanka, Pmara nurnaka lyaarta – Country, then and now, the Hermannsburg Potters document their changing natural environment, and the impact of natural events on their beloved country in Central Australia, in particular the surrounding flora and fauna.
The Potters address these issues in their unique hand-crafted terracotta and underglaze pots with detailed depictions of natural events including bushfires and floods integrated with portrayals of native animals and birds, and daily activities in Hermannsburg and the surrounding bush country. The trauma inflicted to the land and its inhabitants is assuaged by a sense of hope and optimism for future generations and caretakers of country.
