Tiger Yaltangki, Malpa Wiru (Good Friends) 2019. Synthetic polymer paint on linen
152 x 198cm. Courtesy: the artist, Iwantja Arts and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.
One of the most exciting artists working in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands today, Tiger Yaltangki draws inspiration from his traditional Anangu heritage and his avid appreciation for popular culture to create a whimsical visual universe where vivid characters come to life within striking abstract landscapes.
His imaginative depictions of Pitjantjatjara Mamu (cheeky supernatural spirits), together with his love for rock and roll music including AC/DC, and science fiction continues to inspire and empower Yaltangki’s unique self-expression. This year Yaltangki has been announced as a finalist in the 37th Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.
