Wendy Sharpe, Other peoples monsters, 2019. Oil on linen, 125 x 125cm. Courtesy: the artist and King Street Gallery, Sydney.
The richly coloured, lush, whimsical paintings of Wendy Sharpe speak to us of dreamscapes we have traversed. Whether the dreams of sleep, or waking dreams, they appeal to a deeper sense of the mystical and unexplained within us all. Having recently featured in the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Kilgour Prize, ‘Eye to eye’ at the National Portrait Gallery, the Mosman Prize, the Gordon Darling Prize, the National Works on Paper Prize and soon The Archibald Prize, Sharpe is an artist whose presence features prominently in the contemporary art scene. Renowned for her figurative imagery, combined with a loosely abstracted accent, Magic brings us an exhibition that continues to show the strength and power of one of Australia’s most highly respected artists.
The gallery is open and practicing COVID-19 social distancing measures. The exhibition can also be viewed online. View the exhibition here.
